Design
Mini-Brief 1, 2, 3 and 4
So as this is the last week to work on our Project 1, and I will have no book work to present, I thought instead of writing about what ive learnt, ill instead evaluate my project one as a whole.
For design we were given 4 briefs. Balance, Contrast, Emphasis/Movement and Unity/Gestalt.
So as I already know alot about the entire Adobe Suite, and how to use it (Because im entirely self taught with all programmes Adobe.) and thought doing book work would be kind of unnecessary, as I already know all the functions of Photoshop and Illustrator, I have to honestly say I learnt quite alot when it came to actually being taught the differences between Balance and Contrast and how Emphasis/Movement really makes quite an effect to an image and its outcome.
Mini-Brief 1-Balance.
We were taught the differences and similarities between placement of certain objects on an image, how colour and composition also can make quite an impact on images and how we needed to take the steps to try and Balance out colour, composition and placement in each of our images.
We were asked to submit 12 images printed and centred onto black card, each image measuring at 14cm high by 16cm wide, followed by a definition of Balance aswell.
Mini-Brief 2- Contrast.
For this class we were asked to produce 16 images in 7 forms of contrast, producing 2 images per form, one low contrast and one high contrast. At first I was very confused as to what it meant with low and high contrast but as I thought it through it began to make more sense, we were shown how to produce different images involving contrast by light and dark, low colour and high colour etc.
We were asked to submit 16 images printed and centred onto black card, each image measuring at 14cm high by 16cm wide, followed by a definition of Contrast aswell.
Mini-Brief 3- Emphasis / Movement
For this brief we learn different ways of using Emphasis and Movement to capture the viewers attention. By either using Point of Emphasis or Focal Point, this will attract the viewer to look further into image. One good way was to use directional lining to attract the viewer to the point were the lines are directing your eye to. For this brief i learnt quite alot, by just focusing on how you use composition in a photographic image, it can completely change the direction of your eye when you look back at it.
We were asked to submit 8 images printed and centred onto black card, each image measuring at 14cm high by 16cm wide, followed by a definition of Emphasis and Movement aswell.
Mini-Brief 4- Unity / Gestalt
For this brief we learnt about Unity, were a image becomes one, as if two parts of an image look like they belong together, this can be achieved by using similar shapes, colours and textures.
We also learnt about Gestalt which means the designer needs to create some sort of visual unity in an image so the viewer can easily see that certain parts of the image belong together, if the viewer can not find this similarity they will have no interest in the images. The designer needs to produce some clues in the image for the viewer to try and figure out. One example of this is grouping certain shapes together to make it look like they belong together as a group, and this can also be created by repetition (repeating of the same image). At the start of this brief I was quite confused as to what we were trying to achieve, I had to read through the instructions a few times to get a hold of it, but the PowerPoint helped a lot with making me understand what exactly we had to do. I used different types of techniques to produce all my images, Sketching, Collaging, Illustration and Photographic process.
We were asked to submit 6 images printed and centred onto black card, each image measuring at 14cm high by 16cm wide, followed by a definition of Unity aswell.
Have Provided an example from each Brief to give you a fair idea on the sorts of things we had to create using Collage, Illustrator, Sketch or Photographic Process.
